Gamete intra-fallopian transfer (GIFT) - the risks

These days, gamete intra-fallopian transfer (GIFT) is rarely used in the UK.

Eggs and sperm are collected as for IVF, and screened to select those of the best quality. The sperm and eggs are mixed together and then placed in one of the woman´s fallopian tubes. Fertilisation takes place in the body, as it would if you had conceived naturally.

How does GIFT affect the risk of multiple birth?

Your risk of multiple birth is linked to the number of eggs transferred, your age and your reproductive history.
