Karl-Gösta Nygren is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Uppsala, Sweden. An honorary member of IRIS (the Swedish Infertility People’s Organization) and of ESHRE (the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology), he has had more than 100 scientific articles published.
Karl is Senior Advisor to the Swedish Board of Health and Welfare and Past Chairman of the EIMs consortium in ESHRE, which produces annual European IVF reports. He is a member of SQUART (Special interest group for safety and quality in ART in ESHRE), member of ECIT(the European Classification of Infertility Taskforce) in ESHRE, and Chairman of ICMART (the International Committee on the Monitoring of ART) producing the IVF World Reports.
Karl is also a member of the NFS (Nordic Fertility Society) and a member of the international ACT (Assisted Conception Taskforce), for patient groups. He was also a member of the independent Expert Group on Multiple Births after IVF. This group prepared the report “One child at a time”, which reviewed the evidence and made recommendations on reducing the high incidence of multiple births after IVF.
Earlier in his career, Karl was an advisor and member of several committees to the Research Programme for HRP (Human Reproduction) of the World Health Organization.
With colleagues, he started the first private IVF clinic in the Nordic countries, at Sophiahemmet Hospital in Stockholm in 1984.
Posts he has held include co-chairman of the Swedish National Committee for the follow-up of children born after IVF, President of the Swedish Society for Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Board member of The Nordic Federation of Obstetrical and Gynaecological Societies (NFOG) and Member of the Executive Committee to ESHRE.
