Intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection. Process in which a single sperm is inserted directly into the egg to fertilise it, thus bypassing all natural barriers a sperm has to encounter. This technique is usually used when there is a low sperm count or reduced sperm motility.

In vitro fertilisation. The mixing of human eggs and sperm in a laboratory to achieve fertilisation outside the body.
